The Beauty of Kindergarten

Kindergarten is one of my favorite grades to teach. It's a whole lot of fun. I get a kick out of the dances that those kids come up with when we play the classic game "Freeze Dance." That's why I got such a kick out of this ad. I can easily see these guys in my classroom.

What Did You Do For Fun Today?

Today was the second to last day of school. Only one more half day left and then I have summer vacation. It's time for me to start work on my summer project list. Today I did the first thing on my list. I also just added it to my list today and it was a lot of fun.
My cat Monte, is a very needy cat. He loves attention. Whenever I come home I can count on him to be waiting for me at the door. He will then proceed to follow me around until I sit down and give him the love that he so desires.
Today when I came home, he followed me into the bathroom. The other thing that you should know about Monte is that he sheds a lot and at times forgets to clean himself. So...as I stared at him in my bathroom I decided that it would be alot of fun to give him a bath.
One very hairy bathtub later this is what I got...

That's what I did for fun today.

Cool Genealogy

Since January I have been reading the Old Testament. Currently I am in 2 Kings. While I love the stories in the Old Testament, I get confused with all of the names. Between the Jehu's and the Jeroboam's I have no idea who belongs to which tribe, or what kingdom. So today I found a pretty nice Genealogy online. It's perfect for the visual learner like me. Now all I have to do when I get lost in the land of Ahaziah and Amaziah I can look to my nifty chart and figure it out.

I got nothing...

The thing with blogs is that I don't want to write just so that I'll have something on my page. So I'll give you a little personal a la carte...

Here's a good quote about risking love from C.S. Lewis

"There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love
anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If
you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no
one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little
luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin
of your selfishness. But in that casket-safe, dark, motionless, airless –
it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable,
impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the
risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can
be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

We shall draw nearer to God, not by trying to avoid the sufferings inherent
in all loves, but by accepting them and offering them to Him; throwing away
all defensive armour. If our hearts need to be broken, and if He chooses,
this as the way in which they should break, so be it."

For all the men out there that want to know "How Women Work" here you go...

Conversation I had with one of my kindergarten students who had a bug bite on his leg:

"Miss Westin, My leg is bleeding."
"Go wipe it off with a wet towel and then we'll get a band-aid for it."
"Oo, I don't want a band-aid."
"Why not?"
"They stick to you."
